The transmission of Yoga
Initially, Yoga was imparted by the Adiyogi “the first yogi”, Shiva, over 15,000 years ago. It was Adiyogi who introduced to humanity the idea that one can evolve beyond once present level of existence.
He poured this knowing into the legendary Saptarishis, or 7 sages, who carried this powerful yogic science to various parts of the world, including Asia, Ancient Persia, North Africa and South America.
For generations, countless masters, holding it above their own lives, have past on this sacred thread of knowledge without a single distortion.
Classical Yoga comprises of various methods to elevate and purify one’s energies and raise one’s perception to its peak.
Today, however, the refine tools of classical Yoga have been largely lost or grossly distorted due to socio cultural misunderstanding that have accumulated over many centuries. Only in a very few places the classical system endures with its full vibrancy and sanctity.
Moreover, access to the system has been traditionally reserved for the hardest seekers and Brahmacharis who devote their entire life to spiritual Sadhana and austerity.
Upon completion of the program, trainees are competent to teach:
Upa Yoga, Angamardana, Surya Kriya, Surya Shakti, Yogasanas, Bhuta Shuddhi, certain practices of Kriya Yoga, Pranayam, Mudras, Bandhas, Bhakti Sadhana, Guided meditations
and have the privilege and fulfillment of bringing this knowledge to many more people.
The training also includes exposure to:
Anatomy and Physiology, Yogic Physiology, Science of Siddha medicine, Yogic principles and lifestyle, Yogic diet.

Classical Hatha Yoga Teachers by Sadhguru Gurukulam
The Hatha Yoga School of Isha Foundation delivers Classical Hatha Yoga in its full depth and dimension.
It is Sadhguru’s vision to offer this ancient science in all its purity and make it available to every individual.
As a step towards realizing this vision, he has devised the Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Program.
In this program, Hatha Yoga is taught as a living experience in the most beautiful ashram setting of the Isha Yoga Center, in south India, under the grace of a living master.
“The nature of existence is uncertainty.
In this uncertainty you are trying to create a false sense of certainty.
Either you simply falsely believe that this ocean is going to be always calm like this
and I’m going to sail over this or you learn to navigate through a violent unknown,
unpredictable ocean.
You learn to navigate through that. Either you’re equipped for it or you’re not.
So yoga is that aspect which clearly celebrates the uncertainties of life.
We are not trying to create a certainty, we are just trying to equip ourselves to handle uncertainty”
– Sadhguru
“When I connected with Sadhguru my life changed completely, bringing positive influence in many spheres.
I spent years of seeking, to find the way for a fulfilment, travelling all around the world, changing jobs, places and relationships, but nothing was enough, nothing was giving me inner peace neither balance.
I never looked for a guru, but when Sadhguru came in my life the transformation was immediate. Just few weeks after my first Isha Hatha Yoga program I started to experience a feeling of overall wellbeing, stillness and harmony. I felt that union within me that I was looking for since ever.
And after the training program at Isha Foundation I’ve finally founded the way to establish myself, reaching my highest possibilities and help many people doing the same.”

What program would you recommend to someone starting out?
For someone that is new to Yoga and would like to prepare the sytem for more advanced practices, Upa Yoga is the ideal starting place.
Although, beginners can also learn Surya Kriya and Bhuta Shuddi quite effortlessly. Yogasanas as well as Angamardana are little more advanced and require more time to learn and do the practice.
